Frequently Asked Questions

Over the years, I've been asked many questions. And so, here are a list of frequently asked questions, as well as their answers.

Q1. How did you start drawing?
A1. I actually started drawing the minute I could hold a pencil ;)  Some of my earliest memories was learning how to draw Snoopy, in which my grandmother taught me.  It must have been when I was about 2 ½ years old.

Q2. I've noticed that on your page, sometimes you're taking requests and sometimes you're not...why is that?
A2. Well, sometimes I get busy.  Sometimes I'm not taking request commissions because I've got too many drawings to do for other people, or sometimes life just gets busy.  Sometimes I'm just not in the mood for drawing, and if I try to draw while like that, I usually end up with a really bad drawing, so I'm hoping that I don't get into art blocks too often.

Q3. How did you learn to draw so good?
A3. Quite honestly, I really don't think I draw that well.  Yet, I do feel like I've come a long way since I first started drawing Furries back in 1997.  I owe alot to other, very well-talented (much more talented than I am) furry artists out there, who helped me out, critiqued me and showed me new ways on how I could improve.

Q4. On your page, you have lots of drawings of HollyAnn and Trinsic; you mentioned that you're a couple on Furcadia, what about IRL?
A4.  Yes, Trinsic and I are a couple in real life, in fact, we're married as well :)

Q5. Which do you prefer: colouring by pencil crayons or on the computer?
A5.  Personally, I like pencil crayons better.  I don't mind colouring in Photoshop once in a while if I want to do a little web page graphic or something, but I enjoy pencil crayons alot more.

Q6. What computer programs do you use for your art and graphics?
A6.  I mostly use PhotoShop 5.5, along with Eye Candy, which is a plug-in for most art programs, but I usually use it along with PhotoShop.  On occasion, I'll use Paint Shop Pro, or sometimes Gimp.  To make icons, I use AXIcons, and to animate animated GIFs, I use Microsoft GIF Animator.

Q7. How did you come up with the character HollyAnn?  And why those colours?
A7. When I first started to create my character on Furcadia, I knew I wanted to name myself a female name that one of my favourite bands sang.  Originally, I was to be called "Bijou" which is a song by Queen, but that name was already taken.  My second choice was "HollyAnn" which is a song by Boston, and since it was available, that's the name I became.  As for the colours...I'm personally not a fan of the colour orange.  I dont' like "autumn/fall" colours at all, so I thought that I would be different and become...a BLUE fox!  But back then, Furcadia didn't have the option to have blue fur, so I became purple instead (well, technically purple...the colour was formally called "Wolf Grey" but it looks like a very pale purple to me).  I chose pastel and neon colours, mostly because it was the kind of colours I liked, and people seemed to like the original colours I chose.

Q8. Why the name "HollyAnn"?
A8.  Well, as mentioned before, it was one of my favourite songs that had a female name in it.  The song itself sings of a more simpler time, and how they wished the times were the way they used to be.  It just kind of struck me as "Wow! That would really match me!" I think it was good that "Bijou" was taken, because I don't think it would've fit me quite as well.

Q9.  Is "HollyAnn" one word or two?
A9.  It's actually one word.  The H and the A, however, are capitalized.

Q10. What's Yiffy Art, and do you draw it?
A10.  "Yiffy Art" is also known as Adult-Rated Furry Art.  It's when furry artists draw furries in adult situations, which are more suitable for a Rated-R or XXX crowd.  Personally, I've dubbed myself a Dedicated Clean Furry Artist.  I refuse to draw Yiff for two reasons:  1. Alot of kids come to visit my web page and view my art.  I don't htink it would be appropriate of me to start drawing adultish things on the same place when everyone knows I'm known for my kid-safe furry art.  and 2. I think it's just old-fashioned morals.  However, I'm not the type to go around telling people that they shouldn't draw Yiff art and how it's bad, etc etc.  Others can draw it if they like.  I just prefer not to draw it.  Even the thought of me drawing it makes me feel uncomfortable.

Q11. Is there a difference between "Furcadian Artist" and "Furry Artist"?
A11. I don't think there's much of a difference.  Furcadian artists, I would guess, are probably artists who draw characters from Furcadia, and Furry artists will draw pretty much any character, no matter where they're from or what game they play, etc. etc.

Q12. Why don't you like being called a Furcadian Artist?
A12.  Personally, I feel like people won't take me as seriously as if I were a Furry Artist.  I feel as if they'll think "Well, she's a FURCADIAN artist, she'll do stuff for me for free!" and that's just not the case.  In the past, I did free requests and to this day, I still do art trades or sometimes even surprize gift art for my friends.  One of the biggest mis-understandings about Furcadian artists, is that people automatically assume that they'll do drawings for you for free...it seems like everyone expects Furcadian artists are to do free art, which obviously isn't the case.

Q13. I heard that all furry artists are weird people...You know...they draw male/male yiffy pictures and yiff their plushies.  Is this true?
A13. No, this is not all true.  Every fandom out there has it's "dark" side, but no, not ever furry/furry artist out there draws yiff, or "loves" their plushie in that sort of way.  I know that I personally am not like that, and I've also known furries and furry artists for years who aren't like that either.  Please don't believe everything you see on TV or read in the magazines about furries.  They only like to interview the more flamboyant ones who want to get noticed, and don't care what the consequences are afterwards.

Q14. What's the difference between furries and Weres?  They look the same to me.
A14. I honestly don't really know the true differences between Furries and Weres.  The differences that I've personally noticed are that Weres seem to be more in-touch with nature and Native-American things.  I love Were Art!  I love the realistic feel to it :)  Different people have different opinions about the differences of Furries and Weres, so it's really a question of who you ask.   If you want to find out more about Weres, you can visit WereNation:  http://www.werenation.com

Q15.  Are you a Christian?  If so, do you draw Christian Furry Art?
A15. Yes, I'm a Christian :)  I was baptised as a Roman Catholic, but for the past few years, I've been looking at Christianity from a non-Roman Catholic point of view (Protestant/Methodist).  I'll gladly draw Christian furry art if someone would like it as a commission, I've got nothing against it, and I love drawing it :)

Q16.  You're not one of those kinds of Christians that go around and tell people to be against something or else you're going to Hell, are you?
A16. *laughs!* No! I'm not "one of those kinds of Christians" ;)  I don't believe in shoving Christianity down people's throats.  People believe in their own faith and religion and I respect their faith and choice of worship.  In fact, I have many friends from different religions; they have their own thing, and I have mine :)

Q17.  Are you a Furry?  Or just a Furry Artist?  If you're just a furry artist, why do you have HollyAnn?
A17. This is a strange question and even I don't really know how to answer.  Off the bat, I would have to say "I'm a Furry Artist", but I've also been told by others that I'm a Furry as well, because Furry can also mean "a fan of anthropomorphics"  So in that sense, yes, I'm a Furry :)  HollyAnn is actually my psuedonym; an alter-ego, basically she's myself in furry-form.  She represents me whenever I'm online or whenever I attend conventions.  It's how other furries and furry-fans recognize me :)

Q18. What are Furry Conventions?  Do you go to them? If so, which ones?
A18.  Furry conventions are...well...a convention!  They usually last for 3 days (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) of a particular time of the year.  You'll see anything from furry artists with tables, selling their artwork and waiting to be commissed by people, or there will be Role-Playing games, or sometimes there will shows that you can watch, and even classes on how you can draw animals and so on.  At this time, my husband and I attend two Furry Conventions a year: Anthrocon and C-ACE.

Q19. Do you sell any art?  Where can I buy it?
A19. Yes, I do occasionally sell original art, commissions, prints, bookmarkers, magnets and other such things.  You can check out my For Sale page here to see what's for sale, or you can visit my FurBid Page to see if I have anything for sale there.  Also, if yo see me at any of the above mentioned conventions, I also have a large selection of prints, original drawings, discounted prints, magnets, and  bookmarkers for sale, as well as I'm always open for doing a drawing in your sketchbook, or a custom-designed convention badge if you need one :)
