HollyAnn's
Furry Art
Hi! And welcome to my
little VCL webpage! So, you'd like to know more about me,
eh? Well, feel free to read on.
I was born January 14, 1976 and raised in Ottawa, Ontario
Canada. I started drawing long before I could read or write, at
the age of 2½ or so. The funny thing is, I never really
was all that serious about my art until recently. Growing up, I
remember drawing lots of Snoopy, as well as My Little Ponies, as they
were some of my favourite toys. I also remember tracing my old My
Little Pony books as well, and once I had gotten the hang of drawing
those cute, pastelly equines, I started drawing them on my own - a lot
of artists might say that tracing isn't a good form of learning how to
draw...but as a kid, I think it helped me a lot.
As I got older, my tastes changed, and I soon found myself drawing
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. I would buy the original comic
books and I would try to draw them out, as Eastman and Laird did, often
just by looking at the picture. Throughout high school, I would
draw them, along with my anthropomorphic panther character, Pantera
Atra-u. I still wasn't all that interested in wanting to take art
seriously, but after 4 years of being asked by the art teacher, I
finally gave in and took an art course. I didn't like it all that
much, and I ended up flunking it.
Durning my one year of college (I studied floral design), I had gotten
into Disney's Gargoyles as well as Animaniacs. I would often
record the cartoons on a VHS tape, play it back, and pause it so I
could draw out the pose or expression. I literally went through
pads of paper, and I still have many of the drawings to this day.
I was happy to doodle on the side, but again, I wasn't really all that
into art that much. It was a hobby, or something I did in my
spare time, but that was about it.
In 1997, I was introduced to the Internet, and to a game that my
brother had found: Furcadia - a graphic MUCK in which you can create a
furry character and walk around, and talk with people. And so,
HollyAnn was born, the self-named "purple and yellow vixen".
After a month of playing it, it inspired me to want to draw out my
friends' characters. Still being very new to the Net, I thought
that drawing my friends' personas was something unique, and I enjoyed
doing it very much. Later on, I discovered art archives, like VCL
and Yerf and FurNation and felt I had a bit of a connection with other
people who also drew furry art. During my time on Furcadia, I met
the guy who was to become my husband: Trinsic. He and I dated
online, as well as meeting in person, for a period of about 2 years,
and then we were married in 2000, and I moved to Vermont, where we
currently reside.
After getting married, I started drawing a little more, and with the
help of some of my furry artist friends, I tried my hand at selling my
art. You wouldn't believe the rush I got when my first print sold
on FurBid!
Ever since then, I've been selling prints and commissions of my
art. A very big "thank you" is in order to my many furry artist
friends out there, who have helped me along the way, to help me improve
my art, as well as to my husband who has been very supportive of me.
These days, I attend the following furry conventions: Anthrocon, and C-ACE. I'll also be attending AnthroFest as well. Those
are the conventions in which I usually get a table, and I'm available
for commission work and to sell my prints and other things. I
also attend other non-furry conventions, but usually as a convention
attendee.
Along the left-hand side, you'll find many links to my other archives,
my FurBid auctions, as well as to my webcomic, Mountain Poutine.
Feel free to check out my artwork if you like, and thanks for reading!
